I participated in a 2-day design challenge for Eurostampa. I was paired up with a gastronomy student from Italy and was tasked with bringing his design to life. The challenge was to design a wine label inspired my the word "conviviality".
It was important to use that the label felt familiar to consumers. The layout of the Campbell's soup can was great inspo.
I assisted in some design consultancy work for Cage Bio Inc. It was a conceptual packaging renewal project for their ionSURE hand wash. They wanted to update the aesthetics and emphasize the innovative capability of the product.
Original Design
Consumers kept saying that the product was great, but didn't like carrying it around because it looked too "medicinal".
"ionSURE® is a new hand wash that has patented ionSENZ™ protection. It forms a temporary, thin protective barrier over your skin to seal in moisturizers and help repel germs."
After hearing the words: "barrier" and "repel", my mind immediately went to BUBBLES,
BUBBLES of protection.
Quick Stickies
I immediately had ideas on what "protective barrier" packaging might look like, so I did some quick "sticky-sketching" to solve the parts I couldn't visualize and then jumped into CAD for realization.
I find ideating with sticky notes and a sharpie to be cathartic. No pressure to have perfect lines, just sketching to think.
Packaging Concepts
Getting Feedback
After finishing my packaging concepts, I had a design review with the team and client. After the review, the general consensus was the first "solid moisture" concept elicited the most positive response.
Box Concepts
The second part of the redesign was designing the box that the bottle came in. I wanted to really lean into the "protection" and "repellant" aspects of the product.
The Boxes
For the final box designs, I moved from a bubble focused concept to a 'protective halo' focused one.
Putting It All Together.
The final step was to combine the final bottle package designs with the box designs. I also ended up making a final concept as a direct update of the old design.
